Vote Yes on Prop S to Ensure Our Facilities Staff Have Needed Resources

Maintenance staff 1

FHSD wants to take this opportunity to recognize and thank our great FHSD maintenance, HVAC, grounds, and custodial employees. The average building in the District is 30 years old, and the oldest building is now almost 60 years old. Older buildings require significant repair and maintenance, and many of the District’s building systems, like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, are reaching the end of their useful life. It is the great work on the men and women in these departments that keeps FHSD facilities up and running for our students and staff. Voter approval of Proposition S would assure that these employees have the resources necessary to maintain District facilities.

All FHSD maintenance personnel receive training in a variety of areas, including electrical, safety, locking systems, roofing, and asbestos awareness. All maintenance employees have also passed rigorous testing confirming their knowledge in the areas of electrical, flooring, roofing, plumbing, and other general maintenance skills.

All District HVAC personnel have an Associate’s Degree in HVAC and additional training for the aging HVAC systems specific to Francis Howell. They have also passed an HVAC test confirming their knowledge in various areas, including refrigeration, electrical, and maintenance of HVAC equipment. HVAC techs also receive an additional 20 hours of professional development each year from their supervisor on the latest trends and technologies in heating and cooling.

Maintenance staff 3The District has 29 separate facilities, including three early childhood centers, ten elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, an administration building, and seven other sites. These buildings include over 2.7 million square feet of building space under roof, with miles of plumbing and wiring and hundreds of mechanical systems. FHSD is able to keep the doors open, the lights on, the water running, and the heat going because of the outstanding efforts of these employees. Thanks for all they do to protect the investment of our taxpayers and to help educate our students!
